A couple times, during the winter, the rabbits have chewed these shrubs to about a foot above the ground. But it doesn't bother them at all. They recover fast enough to produce fruit the following summer.
The old Lakota was wise. He knew that man's heart away from nature becomes hard; he knew that lack of respect for growing, living things soon led to lack of respect for humans too.
